Project Beta

A quiet tool for thinking in public.

Most writing tools optimize for the moment of publication. Beta optimizes for the moment before — the instant when a thought is still unstable, still negotiating its own shape. We wanted a surface that didn't punish the tentative.

Why Draft-First

Finished writing is an artifact of abandoned writing. Every published essay is the tip of a much larger iceberg of dead ends, half-sentences, and second thoughts. Beta treats that iceberg as the work itself, and the published version as one slice of it.

The interface is almost aggressively plain: a text field, a date, a toggle. No autosave animations. No word counters. Nothing that reminds you that you're performing. When you want to share a fragment, you publish it — and you can unpublish just as easily.

What's Next

We're exploring a version of Beta that lets readers subscribe to drafts rather than posts — a feed of ongoing thinking rather than polished conclusions. It's a bet on honesty over production value.
